The natural image of a rhododendron blossom is used as a background. The digital photograph was taken on a cool spring afternoon with occasional light rain showers. A kaleidoscopic motif made from cropped elements of the original are added to create the finished composition. The artwork is decorative by design with the idea of using the decorative elements in a creative way. The intention is to present to the viewer an alternative way to look at the natural environment. There are many things that generally go unnoticed because of limits in perceptual abilities. Many of these limitations have survival value because they help mental processes to focus. It is an averaging technique used by the brain. The techniques used in the artwork restructure visual information in a way that provides a different way to look at common everyday things in an aesthetically pleasing way.
